MAIN PROJECTS
Energy Bank 2009 – ongoing
Temporary public artwork.
Temporary public facility.
Target audience: Anyone with batteries to charge and energy to spare.
–
This artwork is proposed as an altruistic bank that resembles a small petrol pump station and works as a public service provider for depositing and withdrawing electricity. To make a deposit you simply crank up its wheel. Your muscle power is transformed into-, and stored as electrical power. Plug your cell phone into one of its adapters to make a withdrawal and see both these activities reflected in its energy display metres. With its dynamo charger and solar cell system that illuminates it at night, it requires no main line power supply. However, it relies on your physical effort to be of service. You can decide whether to;
- make a deposit while recharging your cell phone batteries,
- make a deposit for others to withdraw later,
- make a withdrawal without making a deposit.
—
The choice is up to you. Very handy when your cell phone runs out of power!
Possible slogans: “Make feeders speeders” “Powered by People” “Save children – turn the wheel”

How many artists does it take to switch on a lightbulb?
Performance/public intervention
Target audience: passers by
–
Daytime: a solar panel charges a battery in a specific inner city location – could be a city square, round about, roof top, flight of stairs, etc.
Nighttime: A group of people with Bare Conductive Ink painted on their bodies/hands form a large spiral.
- The outermost person of the chain makes the connection to the battery/electrical supply.
- The inner most person holds a single light bulb up in the air.
- They link hands to form a circuit and turn the light bulb on in the SOS morse code rhythm.
- They keep on going until the battery runs dry.

In March 2010 I will have an exhibition at The Sound of Mu, a gallery and cafe in Oslo, to co-inside with the opening of the Electromagnetic Fountain at the Norwegian Telecom Museum. The exhibition will draw on a set of photos of antennas I’ve been collecting for the past few years, and recordings of electromagnetic activity made by myself and friends.
